Vestibular Hypofunction Strategies

The course titled "Vestibular Strategies for the Outpatient Clinician" is a 3-day (21-hour) course that focuses on the anatomy, physiology, and treatment of balance and dizziness conditions often seen in patients with vertigo (BPPV), post-concussion syndrome, and whiplash.

Participants will learn about the different types of vestibular pathologies, including peripheral and central vestibular disorders and cervical disorders, and how to formulate an appropriate differential diagnosis. The course includes both didactic components and hands-on laboratory testing to help participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the material.

This course is designed specifically for the outpatient physical therapist that wants to become known as a cervical specialist in whiplash, concussion, headaches, and dizziness.

Participants will have confidence in treating and identifying common practice patterns in patients with vertigo (BPPV), post-concussion syndrome, and whiplash. They will be trained in the evaluation, differential diagnosis, and treatment of the dizzy patient, emphasizing the use of BPPV assessments, Vestibular Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) assessments, and cervical musculoskeletal assessments. This will be supported by treatment strategies, progression, and management of post-concussion syndrome beyond visual & vestibular drivers, including blood flow abnormalities, metabolic inflammatory drivers, and psychological drivers.
