Our Six Strategic Goals

To develop a culture of life - long learning among the membership

To make the JPA the the advocate for Physiotherapy in Jamaica

To actively encourage and promote membership and participation of physiotherapists in Jamaica within the JPA

To facilitate continued research with a view to increase evidence-based practice and professional recognition

To provide accessible information on physiotherapy through various media and extend our services to the community through outreach programme

To be actively involved in the development and implementation of health policies which impact on delivery of physiotherapy care to all persons in Jamaica

Goal 1: To develop a culture of lifelong learning

Facilitate recognition of physiotherapy specialists through the establishment of viable interest groups and specialization tracks. In this way the JPA can, through an established set of criteria, admit qualifying members to become Specialists/Fellows.

Increase funding of scholarship programmes

Increase offering of continuing education programmes
Goal 2: To make the JPA the lead advocate for Physiotherapy in Jamaica

Develop definition of governing body’s role

Partnering with local and international professional association regulatory bodies

Create and execute proposal in view of the now recognised impracticality of this, the suggestion is that, similar to what pertains in Trinidad and Tobago, a Physiotherapy Board be constituted to function as a sub-committee of the CPSM and to which the CPSM would delegate regulatory duties. This details of this can be worked out with the relevant stakeholders.

Encourage and facilitate research by clinicians

Establish a database for outcome measures by clinicians

Provide relevant online physiotherapy evidence based related content
Goal 5: To provide accessible information on physiotherapy and extend our services through community outreach

Educate the public about the roles and functions of the physiotherapist

Re-establish and maintain our website and mass media presence

Create a standardized approach to community outreach, natural disasters, and disease outbreaks.

Establish physiotherapist directory accessible to the public.
Goal 6: To be actively involved in development and implementation of health policies which impact on delivery of physiotherapy care of all persons in Jamaica

Review existing health policies and make recommendations

Meet with other health professions for exchange of ideas and guidelines

Make proposals to Ministry of Health & Wellness

To keep abreast of current protocols and standard of practice for all international health organizations.
